Environmental sustainability is a fundamental part of humanitarian action. Environmental issues are often the underlying or at least contributing factors to humanitarian crises. Humanitarian responses can have negative effects on the environment that exacerbate risk and vulnerability to further crises if not well managed. Environmentally sensitive humanitarian response, often known as “Green Response” can help reduce vulnerability and promote sustainable recovery and resilience. This course will introduce the key skills and concepts needed for environmental assessment and for mitigating and minimizing negative environmental impacts. The first two days of the course will cover the “Green Response” response concept and approach and will include practical exercises based on real-life, field-based, green humanitarian responses to build the participants’ skills in environmental assessment and green response. The third day will yield the opportunity for the participants to develop green response solutions for current real-world projects within their organizations. This course is designed for humanitarian practitioners and anyone interested in the practical application of sustainability principles in emergency contexts.
Members of ADH Organizations can apply for fee reimbursement. Please check within your organizations regarding the internally announced procedure.
