Exchange Workshop on the Role of Local Actors in Anticipatory Humanitarian Action

Fully booked

The approach of Anticipatory Humanitarian Action (AHA) has been championed mainly by international actors, for example from the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement or the UN cosmos. Meanwhile, the role and contributions of local actors, such as local NGOs or CSOs, remain less clear in many contexts. Welthungerhilfe as an international NGO involved in Anticipatory Humanitarian Action, especially with its Welthungerhilfe Anticipatory Humanitarian Action Facility (WAHAFA), successfully rolled out an approach that enables local NGOs to engage in AHA and become active drivers of the humanitarian paradigm shift towards Anticipation. Facilitated by Welthungerhilfe, this exchange workshop therefore offers you an open platform to reflect on the status-quo, best practices and challenges regarding engagement and leadership of local actors in anticipatory humanitarian action.

The workshop consists of two online sessions (29 and 31 August) that are open to staff from local and national NGOs as well as German and international NGOs. They are followed by an (optional) in-person session in Bochum (6 September) that specifically addresses staff of German NGOs and includes an in-depth reflection as well as the development of an action plan to strengthen involvement and leadership of local actors in anticipatory action. Online workshop participants do not necessarily have to join the in-person workshop and we kindly ask you to indicate in the registration form which session(s) you would like to attend.
